As discussed in the introduction of the Redefining Religion blog post category, the goal of the Redefining Religion content is to redefine common religious concepts, specifically in regards to the religion of Christianity–the religion I, Shay Dawkins, am all too familiar with from growing up in the heart of the Bible Belt (Birmingham, Alabama). For this article, “Refining the Concept of God,” I am addressing all religious followers in all religious belief systems, believers of anti-religious belief systems (i.e. atheists), and anyone who finds themselves in between (i.e. agnostics). This article is addressed to humanity in its entirety.
To redefine religion in the more beneficial and common sense way (based in old fashioned logic and reason) I will, I feel the first concept that must be addressed is the “concept of God.” In order to truly understand who God is and what God represents, here are three literal aspects of God that I feel are most important to emphasize.
Regardless of your belief system, I feel most of us can agree that God cannot be seen physically or literally (i.e. I cannot go type in a physical address into my GPS and drive to a destination that will enable me to physically “see God”). Thus, God is not physical yet this does not mean “God is not real.” There are many EMOTIONS we cannot see, but we know are real because we can FEEL them. For example, you can’t physically see “love or happiness” yet you can feel those emotions; you can’t physically see “hate or anger,” but you can truly feel those emotions too. For my argument, let’s perceive God in the same context we perceive emotions in that we cannot “see emotions,” but we can “feel emotions.”
Regardless of your belief system, I feel most us can agree that if a person where to “attain access to God,” then this person would be “special” or “not your average Joe.” For my logical argument, I feel “natural” should be defined as “living in NATURAL, NEGATIVE emotions” (i.e. fear, anger, agony, hate, sorrow, disappointment, etc.). Thus, to “live in God” would be to live in “SUPERNATURAL, POSITIVE emotions” (i.e. courage, peace, joy, love, hope, fulfillment, etc.). These POSITIVE emotions are “SUPERNATURAL” because they are not natural; they are the opposite of the “NATURAL, NEGATIVE emotions.”
The “seed of God” or “potential for POSITIVE, SUPERNATURAL emotions” dwells WITHIN all of those who have control of their thoughts because an individual’s emotions are generated, first and foremost, from their thoughts. Regardless of your belief system, I feel we all can agree that every individual has the ability to “change their mind” at any point. Thus, to activate GOD (POSITIVE EMOTIONS) a person must simply train their mind to THINK BETTER. This enables “GOD (POSITIVE EMOTIONS)” to become relevant and accessible to everyone, no matter where you are located or what you are doing in the world.
Feel free to click the following highlighted link, “Improve Your EQ,” to visit another article of mine that provides a quick exercise showing how your thoughts generate your emotions.
1 Corinthians 3: 16 KJV
16Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells IN YOU?
1 Corinthians 6: 19 NIV
19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is IN YOU, whom you have received from God?
John 14: 10 NIV
10Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, LIVING IN ME, who is doing his work.
In conclusion, I’d love to hear your thoughts regarding the material discussed. Whether you agree or disagree is irrelevant, Intellectual Rebel is a hub of open discourse. So, I urge you to voice your unique thoughts or just comment with a simple “agree,” “disagree,” or “somewhere in between.” Thank you and have a blessed day!
